The nation’s campers have spoken – and their verdicts have revealed the best places in England for an outdoor holiday.
Holidaymakers with outdoor accommodation specialist Pitchup.com, have left more than 110,100 reviews about England’s campsites.
The South West came top in six review rating categories, including overall, value for money, quality, facilities and for being child-friendly, as voted for by campers themselves.
At county level in England, Shropshire was in pole position in a staggering four out of eight categories (overall, cleanliness, quality and value for money), as well as placing in the top five for another three categories (service, facilities and location).
While the East Midlands county might not spring to mind as a top holiday destination, it was second overall. It was also placed in the top five for value for money, quality service, cleanliness and wi-fi.
Coming third overall, Herefordshire’s campsites were the top-rated for service, and also in the top five for value for money, facilities and cleanliness.
This East Anglian destination was the best-rated for facilities, while it was fourth overall, and in the top five for value for money, quality, service and for being child-friendly.
This was the South West county which was rated most highly by campers, making it into the top five overall at county level, as well as the top five for quality, facilities, service and for being child friendly.
This county has the best sites in the country when it comes to being child-friendly, while it also places in the top five for value for money and for service.
Perhaps the stunning Peak District landscape is the reason why Derbyshire was the most highly rated place for location, beating off competition from places like North Yorkshire.
