As the name suggests, the Silver Cross Simplicity offers both practicality and high-quality materials.

First Impressions

As you would expect from any Silver Cross product, the Simplicity manages to match luxury with robust design. The apron is warm and cosy – perfect for newborns or little ones who get cold easily. The classic branding is unobtrusive, on the apron, the head-rest and a small label on the hood. You can instantly tell this seat is well-made and it both looks and feels secure.

The Simplicity can be used as part of a travel system, combining with all the major Silver Cross pram systems including the Surf series, the Wayfarer and the Reflex pushchair. The seat also comes in a refreshing range of colours, which let you match your car seat to your pram and as with most seats in travel systems, only caters for your Group 0+ needs.

You can fix the seat into your car with the Simplifix ISOFIX base, which is sold separately, although some parents may prefer to use their car’s own 3 point seatbelt. Both options require simple installation, blue guides on the handle help with the seatbelt and the ISOFIX base has a light system which lets you know when it’s securely fixed in place. The Simplicity is also relatively easy to get your baby in and out of; to adjust the strap – which is a little stiff but should ease over time – you simply press a button underneath the bottom strap and then loosen or tighten the harness.

Features

The seat is padded, deep and seems to mould to your baby’s shape for optimum comfort. It also seems to hold your baby in a nice position – without being too upright or scrunched up – and the newborn comfort wedge helps keep even the smallest travellers stay comfortable. This feature can be particularly useful for premature babies!

The infant head support not only provides more comfort for your baby, unlike so many car seats on the market that just haven’t cracked supporting little heads, but also maximises protection on impact. A five-point harness keeps your little one safely in place and is well-padded, so your baby’s body is covered in the event of sudden movement.

The carry handle on the seat is a little stiff to adjust, but parents will be glad to know that despite weighing in at an average 4kg, the Simplicity feels lightweight to carry. Even when forming a travel system with compatible prams, it’s easy to haul about – so less likely dads will put their back out! When battling the elements, the optional rain cover and slide over apron means rain, wind or cold won’t be a worry.

FQ Verdict

While particularly useful for those who already own a Silver Cross pushchair, the Simplicity offers both style and safety for your infant at a reasonable price tag.
