Rishi Sunak has made his first public statement since triumphing in the Conservative party’s leadership tournament.
In an address from London, he praised the outgoing Prime Minister Liz Truss and claimed it was “the greatest privilege of my life to be able to serve the party I love and give back to the country I owe so much to.”
That said, Sunak cautioned that the UK would face a “profound economic challenge” and that it required “stability and unity” to forge a rosier future.
“I pledge that I will serve you with integrity and humility,” he stated.
