Bridgestone has again emphasised the critical need for motorists to perform regular tyre inspections, following the insights gained from its “Become a Road Safety Hero” campaign.
This initiative, which engaged with over 1,000 vehicles and scrutinised nearly 4,500 tyres throughout the year, has highlighted some eye-opening statistics.
The mobility solutions provider reached out to drivers across the UK and Ireland, visiting ten venues, including stops such as the British Motor Show and Roadchef Norton Canes M6 Toll Services. The inspections revealed that 11.7% of the tyres checked exhibited ”notable issues.” Within this statistic, a further breakdown indicated that 9.7% required advisories for tread depth or pressure, while 8% were found illegal and urgently needed replacement. These figures underscore a troubling reality: over 6.1 million illegal tyres are estimated to be on UK roads, according to TyreSafe.org.
The campaign’s findings align with Bridgestone’s earlier research, which highlighted alarming trends in driver negligence regarding tyre safety. Astonishingly, 35% of motorists confessed to never considering checking their tyres, and half were unaware of the legal tread depth limits.
Beyond the numbers, Bridgestone is actively working to change this narrative. Employees have engaged in the ”One Million Minutes’ volunteering campaign, delivering invaluable tyre checks and safety education to promote a culture of awareness and safer driving practices. Andrea Manenti, of Bridgestone North, said, “Our team’s dedication to raising tyre safety awareness has been incredible. If we had one message to motorists, it would be to inspect their tyres more regularly, as it can truly make a difference between life and death.”
The diverse audience for Bridgestone’s campaign included local businesses, young drivers, and everyday car owners, spreading the road safety message far and wide. The company’s hands-on approach reflects its commitment to community engagement and proactive safety awareness, showcasing its determination to ensure safer roads for all.
Bridgestone’s mission extends beyond immediate safety concerns. The ”Become a Road Safety Hero” campaign embodies the company’s E8 Commitment, an initiative that outlines eight key areas: Energy, Ecology, Efficiency, Extension, Economy, Emotion, Ease, and Empowerment. This framework guides Bridgestone’s strategic decisions and actions, reinforcing its dedication to sustainable practices.
With tyre safety as a cornerstone of its outreach, Bridgestone aims to provide motorists with comfort and peace of mind while also innovating solutions that keep people and the world moving forward.
