Škoda has unveiled its all-new Elroq, marking the Czech brand’s entry into the all-electric compact SUV category, writes Tim Barnes-Clay.
The world premiere for the Elroq, Škoda’s first electric model in this segment, was held in Prague, Czechia. The car is the pioneer of the marque’s new Modern Solid design language, embodying robustness, functionality, and authenticity.
One of the key highlights of the Elroq is its impressive powertrain and battery lineup, delivering a range of up to 360 miles. The SUV has various standard features, including a rear-view camera, remote air-conditioning, lane assist, blind spot monitoring, and a 13-inch infotainment screen. What’s more, with a starting price of £31,500, the Elroq stands as one of the most competitively priced electric vehicles in its segment.
Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Škoda Auto, expressed his enthusiasm for the Elroq, stating, “The Škoda Elroq is our first BEV model in the compact SUV segment, the fastest-growing and most popular sub-segment in Europe. The Elroq stands out as our first model to adopt the Modern Solid design language, defined by robustness, functionality, and new visual accents such as the black Tech-Deck Face.”
Joining the chorus of praise for the Elroq, Martin Jahn, Škoda Auto Board Member for Sales and Marketing, emphasised its remarkable value and versatility. He said, “The Škoda Elroq delivers an attractive price-value proposition at the right time, as it offers many interested car buyers an easier and more affordable way to drive electric. Its appealing overall package, its spacious, comfortable and highly functional interior, and outstanding handling characteristics make it the ideal companion for many customer groups – from families to corporate clients.”
One of the Elroq’s cool design elements is the glossy black Tech-Deck Face, which Škoda CEO Klaus Zellmer touched upon. It replaces the traditional Škoda grille while still paying homage to familiar Škoda lines. The front of the vehicle is further enhanced by a robust bumper with a Unique Dark Chrome insert and a reinterpreted “four eyes” headlights graphic that adds to its unique appeal. Notably, the Elroq proudly displays the Škoda lettering on both the bonnet and steering wheel, marking a significant departure from previous models.
In terms of performance, the Elroq offers a range of powertrains and battery sizes to cater to diverse needs. With outputs starting at 170PS (125 kW) for the entry-level Elroq 50 battery and a maximum range of up to 360 miles on the WLTP cycle for the Elroq 85 battery, the vehicle promises versatility and efficiency. The innovative design also contributes to the Elroq’s exceptional aerodynamics, achieving a remarkable drag coefficient of just 0.26 and enabling a top speed of 111mph.
The interior of the Elroq is designed with spaciousness and sustainability in mind. The vehicle offers ample practicality, boasting 470 litres of luggage capacity (expandable to 1,580 litres with the rear seats folded down). The standard infotainment screen has an intuitive user interface, while sustainable interior materials and new Simply Clever features are bound to further elevate the overall driving experience.
The range includes four trim grades – SE, SE L, Edition, and SportLine – each offering generous standard specifications, as we’ve alluded to above. If you’re eager to make the Škoda Elroq your own, then click here to find out more. We can’t wait to drive it!
