My recent encounter with the Peugeot E-308 SW left me impressed with its innovative features and the potential it holds for the future of electric estates, writes Tim Barnes-Clay.

The E-308 SW, Peugeot’s first fully electric estate, is a testament to efficiency. Its potent electric powertrain, with a 156hp motor and a 54kWh battery, delivers an impressive range of up to 254 miles. This, coupled with its efficiency of 4.93 miles per kWh and the standard heat pump for enhanced comfort, makes it a reassuring choice if you’re an eco-conscious and budget-savvy driver.

My test drive of the E-308 SW revealed a remarkably versatile driving experience, thanks to the three driving modes – Eco, Normal, and Sport. The ‘Brake’ mode, which optimises energy recovery, added a nice touch to the driving dynamics. Charging the vehicle is a breeze with the onboard three-phase 11kW charger, and the ability to achieve a 20-80% charge in half an hour with a 100kW DC rapid charger makes recharging convenient. A 7.4kW AC home wall box will do the same in a very reasonable four hours and 25 minutes.

The French estate is a showcase of Peugeot’s technical know-how and design prowess. The brand’s emblem takes centre stage in the large vertical grille, and the inclusion of advanced lighting technology, such as the fang-shaped daytime running lights and the new Matrix LED Technology on the GT trim, further accentuates the vehicle’s aesthetics.

The cabin, featuring Peugeot’s renowned i-Cockpit technology, offers a seamless blend of ergonomics, design, and cutting-edge digital displays, leaving a lasting impression of the estate’s performance and sophistication.

Regarding room, the interior has been meticulously designed to optimise practicality, with ample storage, heated front seats, and thoughtful amenities for rear passengers. The boot is a capacious 548 litres, ballooning to 1574 litres with the rear seats folded down. Additionally, the MyPeugeot smartphone application adds a level of convenience, allowing you to monitor the battery charge status, schedule charging sessions, and sort various vehicle settings remotely.

In conclusion, the E-308 SW is not an easy family-sized car to forget. Its performance, thoughtful design, and advanced technology position it high in the electric estate segment. If you’re in the market for a vehicle that integrates sustainability, style, and innovation, Peugeot’s E-308 SW is a compelling choice that deserves your attention.
