I have had Volvo’s V60 T8 AWD Polestar Engineered model on test for a while, and it’s never failed to make an impression.
The estate car is a terrific commuting machine, and it’s the go-to car for my family. The other vehicle we possess is a seven-seater Peugeot. Yeah, yeah, the French-made 5008 can carry more occupants, but the V60 is a top five-up-mobile – so it’s fine for my brood. You also have heaps of room for your belongings in the rectangular-shaped boot.
Furthermore, the Volvo V60 T8 AWD Polestar Engineered vacuums up miles painlessly – whether fully loaded or with just you at the wheel. Thanks to the smooth automatic transmission, it’s also easy-going to drive.
All that, and, as it’s a plug-in hybrid (PHEV for short), this V60 variant is rather reasonable to run. If you don’t tread heavily on the throttle pedal, you can anticipate anywhere between 113 to 134.4mpg from the electrified T8.
Conversely, if you can’t be arsed to plug the V60 in, you’re effectively in a brawny turbo and supercharged petrol car – and without electric assistance, the mpg tumbles to mid-30s mpg. Of course, that’s not dreadful for an estate that does the obligatory zilch to 62mph run in 4.6 seconds. But you won’t be helping yourself by forgetting to infuse the Volvo with electrical energy as well as petrol.
So, I’m still loving the Volvo V60 estate. It looks great; it’s practical for my family; it’s got get-up-and-go, and it’s economical if you habitually plug it in.
But more importantly, the Volvo V60 T8 AWD Polestar Engineered wears the highest five-star safety rating approval badge. That is precisely the kind of peace of mind you need when you’re a parent transporting your family around.
