Since its first season back in 2020, Bridgerton has continued to grow in popularity, writes Tim Barnes-Clay.

Now, ahead of season three, has this unique show inspired the names of future generations?

To explore this further, The Entertainer has examined the most popular baby names potentially inspired by the popular Netflix show.

To do this, they created a seed list of character’s names from the show, before exploring the latest available data from the Office of National Statistics to source the number of newborn babies with each name.

Girl names inspired by Bridgerton

With season three available to stream from May 16th 2024, The Entertainer’s study revealed five popular girl’s names that could be inspired by characters from the show:

Baby name# of newborns
Charlotte1654
Alice1359
Penelope1194
Violet1057
Rose607

Overall, it was intriguing to learn that Charlotte ranked as the most popular choice – a name that could stem from Queen Charlotte’s inclusion in the popular Netflix show.

Additionally, Penelope, relating to Penelope Featherington, was given to 1194 newborns while Alice – which could reference Penelope’s maid in the show – was slightly more prevalent among girls with 1359 children.

Interestingly, Violet Bridgerton may also be a real source of inspiration for parents with just over 1000 babies sharing her first name. The character is central to the show and is a fan favourite among viewers.

Finishing off the top five, Rose was a name granted to 607 babies and could stem from Daphne’s close friend in the show.

Boy names inspired by Bridgerton

The Entertainer also revealed the top five most popular boy’s names relating to Bridgerton, they were:

Baby name# of newborns
George4141
Archie2928
Henry2912
Jack2847
Will2093

In terms of boys’ names, George ranked top with a staggering 4141 babies. Although George Bridgerton doesn’t appear on screen, his death is the catalyst for much of the show’s events and may have inspired parents when selecting a name.

Elsewhere, Archibald Crane may have led to an increase in baby boys named Archie while babies named Henry could be related to Henry Granville, Benedict’s love interest throughout the show.

Furthermore, 2847 babies were named Jack and 2093 were called Will – these baby names may have been inspired by Jack Shaw and Will Mondrich, two prominent characters throughout the show.

Speaking on the study, David Westman, Recreational Play Expert at The Entertainer said:

“It’s interesting to uncover how much pop culture influences aspects of life such as selecting a name for your newborn child.

“For years we have seen parents select names based on popular singers or actors, but with Bridgerton’s popularity, it’s no surprise to see so many names potentially inspired by the show’s characters.”
