Creative Easter Decoration Ideas

The arrival of spring means one thing for children and adults alike – Easter will soon be here!

Easter is the perfect opportunity to get together with family and – fingers crossed – get outdoors to enjoy the sunny weather.

If you’re looking for something more inventive to do with the kids, you can also get into the spirit of the holiday by being creative at home, whether that involves cooking delicious food or simply decorating the house.

Here are our top tips:

Nest eggs

Making cakes is always a fun activity to do with kids and these chocolate Easter nest cakes are really easy. You can find lots of different recipes online but here is a simple and effective one to follow:

– Add bun cases to a 12-hole bun tin.

– Melt 225g dark chocolate, 2 tablespoons of golden syrup and 50g butter together in a glass bowl over a saucepan of simmering water.

– Stir until the mixture is silky smooth, then pour over 75g of cornflakes.

– Mix until all the cornflakes are coated and spoon the mixture into the paper cases inside the tin.

– Add three chocolate eggs to each cake and leave to set in the fridge.

When you’re serving the cakes, arrange them on a plate with some tiny yellow fluffy chicks from Poundland – they could be the perfect centrepiece for a party!

Decorate the house

We fill our houses with decorations at Christmas, so why not at Easter too? Vases of daffodils are perfect for the season and if you can find a bunch that haven’t opened yet, try adding red food colouring to the water. When the daffodils bloom, the result will be a really nice surprise for the kids!

If you really want to go all out, you could even create a festive Easter wall with this wallpaper from Photowall – featuring a bunny motif and striking pink colour. Don’t worry about it being permanent, as you can get an easy-to-remove self-adhesive version. That being said, we think it would look pretty good all year round!

Egg decorating

Decorating eggs is a timeless tradition and a fun activity whether the kids get involved or not. To get started, prick a hole on both ends of the egg with a pin. Use a nail to make the pinholes slightly bigger, then use a straw to blow into one hole and force the contents of the egg out of the other end (remembering to catch it all with a bowl underneath!).

Make sure to get some stickers, paint, glitter and anything else you can think of to decorate them. One idea is to paint the eggshell with acrylic paint, then scatter glitter all over the egg before it dries, but there are loads of things you can try and kids will love coming up with their own crafty ideas. You could even enlist the help of another family member to act as a judge and pick out the best decoration.
