The #FathersFigure campaign aims to highlight mental health in men (naked or otherwise.)
We all have the occasional off day. Days where we struggle to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Issues arise when these days are prolonged. One in four men are affected by mental health problems. And one in eight men are diagnosed with a mental health illness in the UK. It’s an oversight on our parts when we fail to recognise the mental issues fathers face. Being a father comes with great responsibility (a bit like Spider Man). But it’s alright to take a breather and say, “I’m not feeling too well”.
#FatherFigures
The Dad Network launched a campaign to bring attention to mental health issues in men. They have decided to bare all to raise awareness and tackle the issue. Especially amongst fathers. They also hope to highlight the link between mental well-being and body perceptions.
The way this campaign works is by showing off what you have. The #FatherFigures campaign encourages dads to celebrate their bodies. Whilst breaking down societal stereotypes of what a ‘normal’ body should look like. They want to promote positive body confidence amongst fathers. And encourage men to open up about their mental health and provide much-needed support.
Make a difference
You can join the many dads and support the campaign. By uploading a photograph of a part of your body with #FatherFigures written on it. If you’re a mum, and you’d like to show your support, you can write and photograph your children’s dad.
A Father’s mental health is important for their own well-being, their offspring’s health, and the stability of the family environment. Dads are rarely asked about their mental health and few services are available to them. Making campaigns like #FatherFigures even more important.
This campaign isn’t just about raising awareness. It’s also about individuals sharing their concerns in a safe and secure arena. Be a part of the movement by joining the forum.
