Many newlyweds think about making their house a home for three instead of two. But for Carl and Molly Peterson, that means making room for Carl’s best friend, Randy Dupree, who has lost his job and is bedding down in a bar. The well meaning but infantile Dupree quickly causes chaos – disrupting the Petersons’ lovemaking and wrecking the house through flood and fire. Carl can’t even find refuge at work; Molly’s dad just happens to be his boss and he dislikes his son-in-law so much he suggests Carl gets a vasectomy! As Dupree, Owen Wilson once again appears as the carefree slacker familiar from many of his films. Much of the comedy is dependent on whether you find this persona amusing or merely irritating – and the film’s continual succession of mishaps may prompt you to thinking the latter. That said, you’d be hard pushed not to laugh at the scene where Dupree is found making use of Carl’s Asian porn stash. And Seth Rogen is terrific in a tiny role as Carl and Dupree’s under-the-thumb married mate Neil, who’s having a blast on a guys’ night until his watch beeps. “Shitballs, it’s my alarm – my hour’s up!” he says, sloping back to his wife.
