TOP 10 DADS : WORLD LEADERS
BushBlairWorld Leader ?
THEY MAY BE WORLD LEADERS, HERE'S OUR VERDICT...
1. TONY BLAIR
Make of his policies what you will, but our Tone appears to be a shining example of a family man. The first serving Prime Minister to have a wife in the family way in more than 150 years, Leo was born five years ago and became the fourth Blair Junior after Euan, Nicky and Kathryn. He tries to keep the nippers out of the spotlight, but it’s not always been possible – Leo became a focal point for a debate over the MMR vaccine when dad refused to confirm whether his son had received the treatment. And Euan Blair was found by police to be "drunk and incapable" in Leicester Square in July 2000. But that’s kids for you, innit?
Verdict: human

2. VIKTOR YUSHCHENKO
The recent winner of the Ukrainian presidential election, Yushenko went through a hell of a lot to get there. The former banker was poisoned by the secret service with dioxin, which scarred him for life, but still his resolve – and his family life – remains rock solid. He has five children: three daughters and two sons, and is considering adding to his brood.
Verdict: hero

3. KONSTANTINOS A. KARAMANLIS
Unlike many of the others on this list, the 48-year-old Prime Minister of Greece is a regular Joe known for his devotion to his wife, Natasa Pazaiti, and their two-year-old twins, a son and a daughter. The seemingly saint-like premier has championed children’s rights in his country.
Verdict: honourable

4. KOFI ANNAN
The Secretary-General of the United Nations is fluent in English, French and several African languages and has three children with his Swedish wife. They were more than impressed when Kofi appeared on Sesame Street and resolved a conflict between Elmo and his friends.
Verdict: impressive

5. JOSÉ LUIS RODRÍGUEZ ZAPATERO
One of Europe’s youngest premiers, the Spanish Prime Minister has been married for 15 years and is the father of two girls, Laura (12) and Alba (10). He says of his work/family balance: “Being Prime Minister is a difficult position, but it is easy compared to living with three young women…”
Verdict: perceptive

6. SILVIO BERLUSCONI
Italy’s Prime Minister is also its wealthiest person (worth around US$10 billion) and the owner of three television channels, a publishing house, an advertising agency, a major newspaper, and AC Milan. He traded his first wife in for a younger model and has three young children with her. His son and daughter from his first marriage help run his companies.
Verdict: busy

7. GEORGE W BUSH
Not one of the most popular people on the planet, Bush is nevertheless the apple of the ‘First Twins’ eyes – though they’re not exactly blameless little ladies. Both have been fingered for underage drinking and according to The Times in 2002, “White House aides breathed an almost audible sigh of relief when the girls turned 21 and could buy alcohol legally.”
Verdict: distracted

8. CHARLES TAYLOR
Known as Pappy to his band of child soldiers, Liberia’s leader isn’t much of a father figure despite the seemingly endearing moniker – he’s a war mongering despot. Pappy recently ordered his missus to search out three new wives for him and in 2001 personally caned his daughter in public for indiscipline.
Verdict: frightening

9. SAPARMURAT NIYAZOV
Dubbed the world’s craziest dictator, Turkmenistan’s president for life has banned beards, gold teeth and circuses, renamed months of the year after himself and his mum and created a public holiday to celebrate melons. His wife and two children are rarely seen in public.
Verdict: unstable

10. KIM JONG-IL
A man with a big red nuclear missile button under his finger, the North Korean premier sups shark fin soup while his starving people eat tree bark (literally). Kim was recently reported to have tried to bump off his heir Kim Jong-nam in favour of his other nipper, Kim Jong-chul. His daughter, Kim Sul Song, is thought to have defected.
Verdict: cruel
